Areas designated for animal husbandry and agriculture are characterized by an overall use for buildings, facilities and other intensive Land Use in connection with sheep farms, agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, dog islands, etc., and the surrounding areas associated with these. In other words, buildings, facilities and other intensive Land Use can be established in accordance with industries that are based on the exploitation of living resources.
No other types of business can be established in these sub-areas. In some cases, construction and facilities in M-areas are characterized by being single buildings with associated facilities that will be dependent on the supply of infrastructure and technical supplies, for example in the form of good transport options. Therefore, there is a possibility of establishing this supply in connection with construction and facilities in M-areas, where, in addition, in connection with businesses, year-round residences of up to 2 floors corresponding to 7.5 meters can be established. There may be a limited number of leisure cabins, summer houses, as well as hunting cabins and survival cabins, as long as the number does not change the overall use of the sub-areas.
Provisions and sub-areas
The overall provisions for the individual sub-area are the basis for the municipality's issuance of land allocations and building permits.
General provisions
The general provisions apply to all sub-areas of the municipality in urban, rural and open countryside. The provisions are general and do not take into account the local conditions in the sub-areas.
For buildings in areas for livestock and agriculture, there must be at least 60 meters between a cabin and the area's commercial buildings. In addition, cabins must be built at a minimum distance of 60 meters from each other.
Jetties, roads, lanes or paths may be constructed in connection with facilities and buildings in these sub-areas. Technical supply facilities, including electricity, water, telecommunications and sewage systems, may also be established for the local supply of the individual sub-areas. Establishment of facilities for fresh water extraction and wastewater discharge as well as major energy supply facilities may only be carried out with permission from the Government of Greenland.
The M areas are divided into:
- M1: Agriculture
- M2: Processing of fishery and catch products
- M3: Dog Islands
M1: Agriculture
Areas designated for experimental agriculture are areas where the cultivation of vegetables and crops is permitted. In these areas, it is permitted to build buildings related to the agricultural industry, such as greenhouses, machine buildings and the like.
M2: Processing of fishery and catch products
In areas designated for processing products, buildings and facilities for smoking and drying fish and meat products as well as processing leather products can be established, with a commercial character, but on a smaller scale.
M3: Dog Islands
In areas designated as dog islands, only small buildings may be built for storage related to the care/supply of the dogs.
Distance requirements to coastline and other habitat types
According to the Danish Parliament Act No. 29 of 18 December 2003 on nature protection, no buildings may be built, no planting, cultivation, drainage or other changes to the terrain may be made within a distance of 100 meters from salt lakes and saline lakes, trout rivers, hot springs and the coastline.
Recreational and tourist cabins can only be located closer than 100 meters from the mentioned habitat types if this is determined in a municipal plan supplement with detailed provisions for the sub-area in question.
The Government of Greenland may, in special cases, exempt from the above distance requirements.
